what is the best treatment for bipolar disorder?

I am 27 yo suffering of bipolar disorder since I was a teenager. I think the pills I take (seroquel and serlift) are still not good enough.

get over it and grow up. seriously. I had bipolar, or i should say i’ve suffered from it. basically, no medicine or therapy will help until you help yourself and just stop.
Different medications work for different people. Some people may take years and dozens of different combinations to find what works best. If you feel that your medications just aren’t doing it for you, then you need to tell your doctor. If he refuses to try anything different, find a new doctor. It’s a big pain in the butt to get good treatment for Bipolar Disorder because first you have to find the right doctor, then you have to find the right meds. One thing that helped my family member’s doctor is that he would periodically ask to speak to me, my dad, my mom, my brother, my grandma, etc. He included us in her treatment because my family member could easily tell him that everything is fine with the meds, but we could see if things were really different or not. He used us as his eyes and ears to know what was really going on. This was, of course, done with his patient’s permission.
Please do not listen to those on here saying that you don’t need medication. This is a standard thing that people with Bipolar Disorder go through, they feel fine, so they think they are cured and can go without the medicine. The problem is that there isn’t a cure for being Bipolar. You can treat it and keep it under control through medicine and counseling, but you can not cure it. It will always be there and you should remain under the care of a doctor you trust and you feel takes into account your best interests. If you had a heart disorder and your doctor told you that you had to take a pill every day to treat it, would you stop taking them as soon as you felt better? I don’t think so. Same thing here.

Bipolar usually involves major moodswings, which occur without apparent cause, and often over many months, or a matter of years, rather than days, as with most people (unless rapid cycling). I’d take 4 Omega 3 fish oil supplements daily, replacing 2 of them with cod liver oil supplements in the winter months. Try the Lithium Carbonate, or Lithium Citrate (regular tests are necessary, for these) , before trying the other medications, and see how that goes, over a few months, and maintaining the treatments for the depressive phase, in section 2, and always check out anything first at http://www.drugs.com/, so you will be aware of the risks, and on the lookout for side effects. If not considerably improved, after a few months, consult your primary mental health care provider, If bipolar type 1, an antipsychotic may also be needed. Some people refuse medication, using supplements, and a selective, mostly raw food diet (I do not recommended trying this, if bipolar 1, unless you aren’t troubled by hallucinations, or delusional states). There is no “serlift” at http://www.drugs.com Did you mean: “zoloft?”. this takes a considerable time to taper off from, with medical advice: also read section 2. Whatever, it’s time for a change.
For starters are you do you drink or use drugs alot of times those will give off simptoms of bipolar, alot of ppl start to use and or drink when they are in there teens. Second those pills are not an exact science if what you are taking is not working, leaving you feeling like a zombie, or are not high enough talk to your doc. If you doctor won’t listen get a different one you can do that.
The best results for treating Bipolar come from a combination of medications and therapy. It can take a long time to get a combination of medications that work, and it can also take a long time to connect with the right therapist. I’ve finally found both, and I am doing better than I have in 20 years of treatment.
