Can a Residential Treatment Center Deny Treatment?

I live here in WI, and my child is in need of RTC. She’s currently misdiagnosed with bipolar, and is using substance, or substance abuse. There is a RTC that will address all of her needs and get her on track to a healthy lifestyle, but they say that they don’t feel their program would benefit my child. This RTC boasts, intense therapy in all aspects of their care, but they have referred me to out of state in Illinois, and MN.

The facility in MN has referred me to South Dakota to send my child. How can I actively participate in my childs recovery if she is in Illinois or South Dakota?

alternative treatment for bipolar disorder?

are there any alternative solutions/treatments for bipolar disorder that don’t involve taking anti depressants and mood stabalizers?
don’t worry.. i wouldn’t stop taking my meds without a dr’s supervision… for the person who commented on that.. i went to school for psychology for a while, so i know the ropes a bit.. i do exercise, i do eat right.. i don’t see a therapist.. my M.D prescribes my meds because my insurance doesn’t cover psychiatrists….

symbyax is a combination of fluoxetine (prozac) and olanzapine (zyprexa) that works wonders but has the unfortunate side effect of inducing significant weight gain (that’s the zyprexa), a prohibitive factor in those already overweight for whom it represents a serious medical concern in it’s own right. does anyone know of a similarly-acting med that is weight neutral? the prozac by itself does not help. thanks!

Is marijuana a good treatment for bipolar disorder?

I recently found out I have it and I’m afraid of taking pills for it. Those side effects scare me more than that of marijuana, which I heard can be affective for some patients.

My ex has bi polar disorder and will not admit it to himself and will not seek treatment. As a result, I don’t want him around at all and that makes it very hard on me raising our daughter on my own. Also he doesn’t pay child support and I resent that. Is there anything I can do to force him to seek treatment?

I have been taking Lamictal for the treatment of bipolar 1 disorder for almost 4 years. I’ve tried to get off the stuff but withdrawl symptoms are unbearable. That and the fact that nothing else seems to work. I know that only a couple of meds are approved for longterm use. Does anyone know if Lamictal is one of them? If I cannot get off this how much damage will it do to my system? What other problems will Lamictal cause with longterm use?
