Over this 3 years I have helped him thru addiction and recovery. He has also been diagnosed bipolar and is being treated with medication. Early in the relationship he was secretly talking to other women. But I after he got on the road to recovery(about a year and a half ago) and started taking meds I thought that was all behind him. I have found out that he has joined match.com and other personals websites as recently as September. I have had enough eventhough I love him still. I travel alot with my job so the kids see me come and go…but what do I tell them now that I am not coming back? I am the most stable person in their lives(this includes their own family) so it really pains me to leave them. Any experience with this or advice?

I know what the disorder is, but it never crossed my mind as me having it. Sorta of like in denial that im not bipolar.

So the doctor gives me a bunch of medicine and i get slightly stable now.

Basically i first went to this doctor 5 months ago. There he talked to me and decided to put me on pills to help me concentrate and slow down my fast thinking. So I told him I might have ADHD, and he agreed.

THIS WHOLE TIME, i thought i have been taking meds for ADHD(im sorry im an idiot).

NOPE, its for bipolar, because i went to the doc yesterday curious to know what the hell it is, and he says that i am bipolar type 1.

Why couldn’t he have told me? I seriously thought i have been taking meds for adhd, but its lamictal and zoloft, which i just realized is for bipolar patients. I remember i asked him what the diagnosis was, and he said “we should know in 3 weeks”, and that was 5 months ago.

Wow quinpod, 10 years of chronic depression, that must have been hell.

Unfortunately Omega 3 didn’t work for me, I took it for a good 8 months about a year ago, with the intention to have better concentration/adhd, it didn’t help. It was then I decided to go to the doctor.

Also the doctor didn’t lie, he never said I had ADHD, he just never told me what I really had, and i assumed from a therapist when I started college I had ADHD, but it was bipolar really.

In my bipolar, its not the depression makes my life unbearable, its the mania and its horrible symptoms.

He has bipolar so they think he will end up killing me or that i can do better. So we have been seeing each other in secret for about 7 years. We are really close but argue a lot….due to his illness and maybe my constant nagging i.e. tv on standby crumbs on the counter the ususal stuff. We have split up but i do not feel that it is the right descision, i want him to be in my future but i know i have to tell my family, but im scared it wont work out, people dont really understand the illness so its hard to talk to others. My family are not even generally supportive of me now and they don’t know how they will be if they know.

She asked me some questions about them and judging by my answers, she gave me an Rx for Paxil and suggested I make an appointment with a Psychiatrist (sp?) to test for bipolar. His friends all do drugs so he’s constantly around them but he constantly denies he’s doing them. I’ve found suspicious items in the car like glass pipes and small cut straws in (he says his friends leave them in the car sometimes). I read its very hard to tell if he’s doing drugs since he’s bipolar. Are there any absolute ways you can tell the difference?
