Now I heard of bipolar but we think my sister and nephew have it? Can anyone tell me if anyone has had experience with this or knows someone? We don’t know if we should take them to the dr? What should I look for? Is it hereditary?

My sister is bipolar she is in her 50′s and she has been taking Lithium for years and smoking Pot and she was an alcoholic for 23 years then quit and has been back to drinking very heavy again for the last she says 2 years she went into recovery 28 days ago and they have stated at the recovery center that she is disrupting the meetings and talking crazy and dilusional. she does not make any sense and is combative and aggressive. Her 28 days are over today 09/01/06 but she has done absolutely nothing that was required of her in Rehab and has done nothing but hinder everyone elses progress. She argues everything and is very loud and when she talks she is making absolutely no sense at all When she was taking the Lithium she was not going to the doctor for regular blood tests she would just take it and get so high. we could not even understand her when she talked she would come over and spend the whole time on the toilet with Diarrhea and right before she went into rehab she was throwing up

Can Bipolar Disorder affect your ability to hold down a job and do employers discriminate because of it?

While he was in a Drug Rehab, during the open meetings there were speakers who said that 70% of addicts are Bipolar and are not aware of it. I’m trying to help my husband with all the possible resourses I can. He does have the symptoms of Bipolar although has never been seen by a doctor for this. Has anyone heard of the connection?

A certain entertainment figure said they used Pot to treat their Bipolar symtoms. Seems to me that it would make the situation worse. And having read what others have defined Bipolar disorder to be (manic depression etc.) I cannot help but wonder.

A person was going through a bad divorce and was depressed. The MD put her on Cymbalta and she became much worse. More depressed, suicidal. Cymbalta kept being increased and she got worse. Then Antianxiety meds were added, she became worse and attempted suicide. She has improved since off Cymbalta but has a diagnosis of Bipolar and now on Lamictal. Could the Cymbalta caused all of this?

there has never been a genetically prediposed chemical imbalance that causes deprssion or acute mania. it has never been proven in any way whatsoever nor is there any evidence that bipolar symtoms are genetically handed down, it’s all BS
Mst people have family memebers with diagnsosed or non-diagnosed mood phenomenas and if they don’t the shrink will just say well it’s not completley genetic OR the gene or genes is/are dormant and needs certain enviromental factors to emerge

I am afraid my loved one is suffering from a bipolar disorder. He has recently moved out from home, dropped out of school and is heading south with his life… Could it be bipolar depression? How can I help him if he doesn’t want to be helped?
