I have Bipolar type 2 and I’m not taking any medication for it and I’m not seeing a therapist. What are the long-term consequences for this?

Can Bipolar Disorder affect your ability to hold down a job and do employers discriminate because of it?

i’m just wondering.

I haven’t been to the doctor in a while, but I recently went to a new one, who I think has me all wrong. I am bipolar, but I think that she diagnosed me with depression and anxiety. She prescribed Lexapro, which is for depression. I haven’t taken it yet, 1) because I have been feeling better since then, and 2) because most depression medications haven’t worked for me and I don’t like dealing with side effects. If you are bipolar, what medication have you found success with?

If you’re tested for bipolar disorder, and they tell you what medication is available can you refuse medication? Or will they force or insist you take it

I’m trying to gather info for a stepparent adoption and my ex has bipolar disorder and refuses to take any medication. There have been stays in the psych ward and suicide attempts. My son is autistic and I believe it to be in his best interest if the bio father’s rights were terminated. There has been no contact for almost a year. My son has problems with routine changes (symptom of autism) and having a bio father pop in and out of his life could be harmful.

will he go insane? my friend wants to drop E, but i know he’s on medication for being bipolar. anyone knows what it could do to him?

My best friend’s husband has bipolar and takes medication. She is one frustrated woman, I can sense it although she does not talk about the subject. They are young in their 30′s. Could his decreased sex drive be a main reason for her frustrating attitude since he was diagnosed.

Against common wisdom and against his doctors orders, he stopped cold turkey from taking this bipolar medication four months ago.

He has been just fine since and I would like to know what to expect.

I was recently diagnosed with a bipolar type of depression. I’ve tried the only few medications my doc knew of because it is a newly found diagnosis. Anti-depressants don’t do anything. I was on Abilify, it was basically like taking benadryl, it made me fall asleep and that’s it. the other one didn’t do anything, it was like drinking water I guess.
*I forgot to mention that I actually am not bipolar, but my depression is exactly like it. I also found the other med I was on, it’s called Lamictal. I have a psychiatrist, but I haven’t been to him for a month because of finances (go figure…lol). Lithium seems to work for the same symptoms I have, maybe I am bipolar, I’ll have to check it out.*
**One more thing, haha! I also forgot to add that my job is unloading trucks (trust me, I am in peak physical condition) but it’s high stress right now and the only job I can find. The job without stress works wonders, but there must be some way to deal with it besides exercise. It’s good, I get a ton everyday (about 10 hours/day), but I need to find something else to take the “steam” off. Sorry about not adding that in**
