Is ADHD caused by genetic or environmental factors? Is it related to other brain disorders?
Is there a relationship between ADHD and autism? What about bipolar manic depression? I have heard that all of them have some genetic basis, but the shocking increase in ADHD cases makes me wonder about environmental factors. Also, what exactly is the relationship to hereditary dopamine deficiency?
Just to clarify for those who aren’t aware, ADHD is not simply a child’s disease. It affects millions of adults. The symptoms may include difficulty concentrating on sustained tasks, poor time management, distractibility, forgetfulness, and cluttering.
Of course, there are bound to be epigenetic factors, but if the disorder is indeed hereditary then those without the genetic basis who are exposed to the same environmental factors (food additives, pollution, vaccines, or whatever) should not develop the disease. I should have clarified that.
Anyone had SPECT imaging brain scan for ADHD Bipolar Depression etc, like Amen Clinics &did insurance cover?
Here’s my full question: Have you or anyone you know of had SPECT Brain Imaging at a specialty place, such as Amen Clinics, OR any other place that does this, for psychiatric evaluation of disorders such as ADD, ADHD, Depression, Bipolar, head trauma, Dementia, drugs/alcohol abuse, etc. and got the insurance company to pay all or part of the cost?
It is well over $3,000 and they make you pay up front, providing you with only a walk-out receipt for (possible) reimbursement from the insurance carrier. On the Amen Clinics website, it says that some insurance carriers will reimburse but not all. However, I have read some websites where some people said that their private health insurances don’t cover it and have yet to find anyone’s testimony on the internet saying that it was covered (except for one, whose doctor wrote a letter of necessity to the insurance company).
What causes chemical imbalances in the brain?
All my life I’ve had psychological problems. Trichotillomania, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Body Dysmorphic disorder, Depression, Anxiety, Possible Bipolar Disorder, etc.
Is there something that causes chemical imbalances in the brain? The only thing I can think of is my mom smoked while pregnant with me, but I know tons of people who’s mom’s smoked while they were pregnant with them, and they’re just fine.
Or are you just born with it? Or is it hereditary?

What effects does Bipolar disorder cause to the brain?
Im researching bipolar disorder and am trying to figure out what effects bipolar has on the brain.
Bipolar disorder is thought to be the result of a chemical imbalance in the brain
Bipolar disorder is a mental health issue in which an individual experiences cycles of depression and mania. It is classified as a mood disorder. It is also referred to as manic depression. If not treated properly, bipolar disorder affects every aspect of an individual’s life including relationships, school, and career. Many individuals who commit suicide showed symptoms of bipolar disorder that were not treated, or they had been diagnosed but stopped taking their medication.
Bipolar disorder is thought to be the result of a chemical imbalance in the brain. The extreme mood swings that result are very intense. During the cycle of changing from depression to mania and back again, sleep patterns are interrupted, activity level changes, and cognitive behavior is extremely altered.
What is going on in the brain that causes bipolar disorder?
I’ve seen the chart, for depression, where there isn’t enough of a certain cell or something, so people get depression.
But I’m curious about what it is that’s going on inside the mind with bipolar disorder that is causing it.
