Question by Zannnt: Can I give someone who is Bipolar Alcohol?
My friend just turned 21 and I wanted to get him drunk but he is also Bipolar and takes medication I have no idea if he can drink with his medication, or what it could do to him. Of course I would do this in a safe environment like his home.

I was diagnosed as Bipolar II. I’ve tried a lot of different antidepressants but there is nothing working better for me than alcohol. I am not an alcoholic and I contol my drinking knowing it is not the way. I drink once a week four, five light beers, but they can work wonders the day I am drinking and the next day. There is no antidepresant or mood stabilizer that could made me feel so normal like alcohol, why???? I am so frustrated. Also, when I am depressed and anxious I have a preassure headache in my right eye, my eyes feel heavy and I blink a lot, I’ve checked with eye doctor, everything is fine. When I feel better, my eyes feel fine, is that normal?

I take it for bipolar 1 disorder.
I am going to go socially drinking tomorrow and probably getting drunk.
It says not to drink alcohol, but I wonder if it is really a big deal.

My psychologist says these substances take away the benefits of the medication, Lamictal. But I just dont see a problem with them. If anything, Im taking this medication for nothing if I feel fine and still consume these three things. I dont know how he can expect me to give up caffeine & tobacco, but the alcohol I know I have to keep under control. He says that by consuming these three substances, the medication doesnt do it’s job. However, I have yet to find anything on the internet to support this.
To be honest, I dont think I needed the Lamictal at all. I went on it by his recommendation when I wanted to get off Cymbalta, which I was prescribed during a bad year of death in the family….for Stress. My stress is now under control. And Im thinking the Lamictal isnt doing anything since I consume these 3 things pretty regularly. Ive been on Lamictal for about 5 months. I kinda think these dr’s just want to support the pharmacuetical companies and drain our insurance benefits.
