Is Trileptal used for bipolar treatment?

this med says it’s for epilepsy but was perscribed when patient said he felt he was in a depressed slump.

Sure, lots of meds for epilepsy are prescribed for bipolar disorder. Now, I can’t tell you technically why, but I’m on Lamictal which is also prescribed for those who are epileptic. I’m sure they are just concerned with the same part of the brain. Whatever it is, it works. It’s kind of like the ADHD medication Dexedrine–it is also used for those who are narcoleptic. Not all drugs have to be for one disorder, which is kind of nice.
Yes, most meds for treating bipolar disorder are anti-convulsants (like epilepsy). They also use anti-convulsants for depression, but not usually as a 1st line medication. They are getting more popular for depression and can also help with anxiety.
