since the patient’s mood swings can be dangerous to others and themselves it would be extremely wise to accompany the patient to the doctor’s office today to explore this problem which is medically complex.
In the UK there is, yes. It is called a Community Treatment Order which is rather complicated but since you’re asking in the USA I don’t think a more complex response would be helpful to you.
Not that I know of, and how would they know unless they get in trouble over their bipolar mania episode.my husband is bipolar and i feel for you, it can be tough to live with someone that does not see consequences. Good Luck
Hi – only if a person is incompetent, I believe.

Some of the answers to the above link are foolish, but the Best Answer is good.
Good luck.
There’s no law in the US that I know of. I’ve started and stopped my medication many times-although I don’t recommend this. I think your husband should keep working with his doctor to find a medication he can take. Bipolar disorder made my life miserable, so I take my med like I’m supposed to now.
No there is no law. He may need medication but unfortunately there is no way to force him to take it…. The only way he can be forced is if he is on probation for a crime and his probation requires him to take it….
