Is Lamictal approved for longterm treatment of bipolar?
I have been taking Lamictal for the treatment of bipolar 1 disorder for almost 4 years. I’ve tried to get off the stuff but withdrawl symptoms are unbearable. That and the fact that nothing else seems to work. I know that only a couple of meds are approved for longterm use. Does anyone know if Lamictal is one of them? If I cannot get off this how much damage will it do to my system? What other problems will Lamictal cause with longterm use?

I looked on Webmd.com and it is approved for treatment of bipolar disorder, among other things, but it doesn’t say long-term. I don’t know if that helps or not…
I’ve been taking Lamictal for five years. I don’t know how long ‘long term is’, but I’ve never heard anything of that sort from my psychiatrist.
