i have bipolar disorder. what will happen if i don’t get meds or psychiatric help? will i go insane? what’s hte worst thing that can happen to me?

It depends on the severity of the disorder. Keep in mind that if you let it go you are not only depriving yourself of relief, but you are depriving others as well. Whether you know it or not your actions and your feelings have impact on everyone around you.
I dont think anything will happen to you. Everyone else around you will leave because they wont be able to deal with you. Its a tough disease for the people you love. Do your family a favor and get the meds.
YES!!!! I’m bipolar, and i have to admit that meds are a pain in the ass. but remember, all meds DO NOT work for every bipolar patient. i control mine through my diet, so i eat more fish, green vegetables, and eggs. talk to your doctor about a special diet for this. A dietician can also help.

Without treatment, you will find that you will be very unhappy and create upset in the lives of people around you. It is not your fault you have this, but it will be your fault if you don’t deal with it properly. If you had diabetes, you’d get proper medical attention right? If you had high blood pressure you’d do the say right? So, you get the help you need for bipolar so you can live the best possible life you can. Make sure you get the best psychiatric help so they can put you on meds that work for you. Some-times, they have to tweak the meds to fit your own needs. Just don’t make the mistake many with bipolar make…they stop taking the meds when they feel better, they don’t understand they feel good because of the meds. Take them, go to counseling and take care of yourself.
Many bipolar people are fully functional and are not treated and not diagnosed.
If bipolarity doesn’t affect your personality or behavior you don’t really need to worry very much about treatment. Since you are asking about it I think you might have reason to believe it could affect your personality. Given that I would at least see a doctor.
The worst thing that could happen is you could wind up with virtually no control over your behavior.
Ask the people around you, if it is bad I am sure they will tell you honestly. You will have bouts with depression and over activity.. all in the same day.
The bipolar dis order should definitely be put under control, if not you may have lots of problems in future. You may end up in amental hospital or worse commit suicide if you don’t stop it now. I suggest you to visit the following cites:

What’s the worst that can happen? Well, first off, the illness will worsen over time. I have suffered for 25 years, but was only diagnosed in my early 40s when I eventually became psychotic and had a complete meltdown. In the process of coming to terms with bipolar, I realise that it has cost me almost every relationship I had, and most of my jobs.
Secondly, you need to be aware of the statistics: 20-25% of unmedicated bipolar sufferers will attempt suicide at some point. 15% will succeed.
I am now successfully on medicatiopn and leading a normal life. It’s your call.
yeah u can go on without having it treated but just know that the conditions will only worsen…. they might get better for a while but then they’ll spike downwards… however having bipolar is not excuse for u not trying to become a better person… MEDS will lock your mind and u will become dependent on them… stay away from drugs as i’ve learned that they won’t effect u in the short-term… but in the long-run your mania and paranoia levels will rise tremendiously…… depressants will just make u more depressed and stimulants will make u depressed after u down… stay away from drinking or anything that will fuck with your head… try to find a hobby… go out and go to church or hang out with friends.. see a counseler if u have to but don’t take meds unless u feel u have to… don’t be alone!!!! that was the best advice i ever got… DON’T BE ALONE and don’t second think yourself… no regrets and slowly u will forget u even have bipolar… one step at a time…..
