How do they test you for Bipolar?
I know I have been asking about depression, but I read up, and I think I have bipolar. I have had Mixed affective episodes and I’m almost absoulutely sure i have it.
ANYWAY
Does anyone know how you get tested for bipolar?
How to tell people?
thank you
btw:
A mixed affective episode is defined as a state of mind wherein feelings of depression and mania are felt at once. This can include confusion, impulsiveness, insomnia, irritability, suicidal thoughts, racing thoughts, rage, or abnormal aggression. As isolated, one time occurrences, the above are not usually considered evidence of a bipolar disorder. When they are recurring or happen in conjunction with one another, it may very well be that the person is suffering from bipolar disorder.Treating bipolar disorder should not be attempted without first having a thorough, professional diagnosis conducted. Misdiagnosis and improper (and even illegal) administration of medication has occurred more than once thanks to untrained armchair psychiatry.

You need a professional and you need to stop diagnosing yourself. I am sure once you get diagnosed you and your Dr. can find a medicine that works.
A psychiatrist, psychologist, therapist can ALL help you. Make an appointment with one, they will ask you probably 90 or so questions and diagnose your answers and get right back to you, and even possibly prescribe medication to help!
You don’t get tested..
You just make a psychiatrist appointment and tell him/her what’s going on… They’ll diagnose you and give you meds.
They just look at your habits… I’ve been diagnosed with it about 5 times over the past 10 years… I bought it for a while… then I doubted it… then they gave me the MMPI and according to that I don’t have it because my mood swings are a rational reaction to a totally unstable and chaotic environment. Bipolar disorder is the inability to control your emotions… and having emotional outbursts of extreme emotion that doesn’t fit your circumstance at all and causes you to do things that hurt yourself or others to a degree that you are disfunctional… Is this your problem? Because if it’s not… you’d be taking a toxic and life shortening substance for a problem related to the thin cell wall of your neurons… and it won’t do anything but harm.
Be careful… honestly what you are describing sounds normal… you realize being human isn’t always the greatest thing ever? I don’t know when we started expecting every moment of our lives to be satisfying and happy, maybe it was when the pharmaceutical companies started paying doctors bonuses to prescribe their drugs, and started running commercials of their products on tv… don’t be fooled. If you aren’t sure take the MMPI exam.
There is no test for bipolar disorder, maybe a questionnaire for elimination or possibility. A psychologist or psychiatrist would be able to make a diagnosis or determination by your history, family history, stated symptoms and by observaton. It is not a quick diagnosis to make, nor should it be due to the characteristics of the illness which often take months to actually come about. It sounds obvious that you have read up on the different diagnoses associated with mood disorders. It is always a good idea to research and gather information regarding something involving your life and your health. However, any given person on any given day could probably answer yes to many different symptoms associated with any number of diseases or illnesses. It is one thing to read something from a book and an entirely different one to experience it first hand (through many years of practice and treatment of persons suffering from the illness). Try not to be too analytical about it, self diagnosis can be with good intention but can often be misleading for both yourself and your doctor. It can end up becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy.
