yes they do. as children/ adolescents, episodes come more frequently. but if they’re coming 5 years apart now, i don’t think they will change much more.
Five years apart is a really long time. It almost makes me question the diagnoses. I do not however believe that episodes get further apart as you get older. Maybe you are able to know the warning signs better and what triggers you better that you are able to make it longer between each episode. I understand bi polar to be the extreme highs and lows of one’s mood. If your not getting manic but once every five years, you could be bi polar II which means you just battle the depression more then really having a manic episode. That is what I am. I have been in therapy for over five years and have yet to have a manic episode. So it could boil down to you having been diagnosed wrongly, talk to your Dr about it.
The only things that get longer as you get older are your nose and your ears.
I have never heard of that from any of my psychologists or psychiatrists, so I’m going to say I don’t think so. And everyone who is bipolar is different anyway. I’d be interested if anyone could post a study or some valid research showing otherwise though.
