I have trouble with horrendous mood swings. I am a 47 year old female. They had diagnosed me as bipolar, but lithium, depacote, nothing worked, but I gained weight like crazy. I didn’t really fit the profile for bipolar other than mood swings (no spending sprees, no promiscuity, etc.). The doctor tried Risperdal and it worked! I felt normal for the first time in years. Then they took a prolactin test, it was 37.7, and normal is 1-20, so he took me off and put me on Seroquel. I am on a therapeutic dose, no relief, still mood swings like crazy and MORE weight gain. Some days I eat nothing at all, and I still gain (and still act crazy). I would like to go back to Risperdal if that number is not completely out of the question. At least if I have to be 30 pounds heavier, I don’t have mood swings with the Risperdal. Anyone have any luck with these or other drugs for mood swings, and what did you do about the weight gain? I feel HORRIBLE!

I didn’t do anything to upset my ex that I’m aware of. Last time we talked (6 weeks ago) things seemed amicable/agreeable.
I told him I was starting the local nursing program and that I would really appreciate his help over the first 6 weeks as this is the intense phase of the program. He’s presently unemployed because he got fired from his job for being late all the time (after working there for 7 years) and he said “no problem” and that he’d love to see our son as much as possible.
He helped somewhat over the summer but was very unreliable, was hardly on time, sometimes wouldn’t show up at all. Then the last week of summer he helped out and watched him while I worked. He apologized for his inconsistency, said he understood the importance of being there for our son and said he wanted to see him 4 days a week (during the day).

My boyfriend is bipolar but I think he may be on drugs (he is a recovering addict). His friends all do drugs so he’s constantly around them but he constantly denies he’s doing them. I’ve found suspicious items in the car like glass pipes and small cut straws in (he says his friends leave them in the car sometimes). I read its very hard to tell if he’s doing drugs since he’s bipolar. Are there any absolute ways you can tell the difference?

I know a woman that is Bipolar and she’s 47-years-old. She is on a Bipolar medicine that makes her want to take drugs that she’s never taken before. That’s a side effect; she isn’t a druggie or anything. What can she do? It’s pretty much the only Bipolar medicine that works for her. Does anyone know the name of the medicine? Her psychiatrist knows.
