Depression is a mental illness that affect your body as a whole. This illness involves the body, mood, and thoughts. Depression is also known as biological depression, clinical depression and major depression. But the meaning for all is same that is feeling sad and depressed for weeks or months on end (not just a passing blue mood), accompanied by feelings of hopelessness, lack of energy, and taking little or no pleasure in things that gave you joy in the past.

Depression is characterized by a number of common symptoms. These include a persistent sad, anxious, or “empty” mood, and feelings of hopelessness or pessimism. A person who is depressed also often has feelings of guilt, worthlessness, and helplessness. They no longer take interest or pleasure in hobbies and activities that were once enjoyed; this may include things like going out with friends or even sex.

Bipolar disorder is a brain disorder which is also known as manic-depressive illness. Symptoms of bipolar disorder are different from the normal ups and downs that everyone experience through from time to time. Bipolar disorder symptoms can result in damage relationships, poor school performance, lost of good jobs and it can even cause suicide. But fortunately bipolar disorder can be treated and people with this illness can lead full and productive lives.

Bipolar disorder often develops in a person’s late teens or early adult years. At least half of all cases start before age 25.1 Some people have their first symptoms during childhood, while others may develop symptoms late in life. Bipolar disorder is not easy to spot when it starts. The symptoms may seem like separate problems, not recognized as parts of a larger problem. Some people suffer for years before they are properly diagnosed and treated. Like diabetes or heart disease, bipolar disorder is a long-term illness that must be carefully managed throughout a person’s life.

What is Bipolar Disorder? Every one of us can experience the ‘ups and downs’ of everyday life, but for people suffering with bipolar affective disorder these ups and downs are more extreme and prolonged, affecting not only their mood, but their thoughts, behavior and ability to function in life. Thus making them different from others. For us it is just a bad day or experience but for the sufferer it could be a lesion or incident to be remembered. It is a neurological disorder characterized by extreme mood swings. After a brief research it has been concluded that there is no such factor that causes this disorder. Genetic factors, brain chemistry and life incidents contribute in the onset of this disorder. There are almost one in hundred people get affected by this disorder. It mainly starts as a depression in adolescent but it can appear at any age group regardless of gender. It is important to treat this disorder as early as possible to avoid further complications.

Can a tramatic event, although seeming managable at the time cause depression. Or is a chemical imbalance (low sertonin) eventually lead to depression with or without external causes. Is hypomania bipolar II mixed state bipolar difficult to diagnose? Can a person with the above suffer from a “lack of insight” much more common with bipolar I than II. I am skeptical a event of 17 years ago can cause a slow but consistent slide in a quality of life issue. I am in therapy. With revealing talks with old friends my behavior did change (slowly) but consistently almost two decades ago! Is this posible?

Caring for a loved 1 who has a bipolar condition has to mean that you have to know the characteristics of the mental illness for you to correctly identify whether the particular person is already not in his or her appropriate frame of mind as of that moment and correct intervention can be done prior to anything can get out of hand.
