According to someone w/ a psychology degree in egypt, acceptance and understanding of mental disorders is a fairly new phenomenon. I’d like to know what kind of treatment people w/ bipolar receive in egypt since I find those w/ the “disease” fascinating individuals (tend to be musicians and artists…and to the potential uninformed person who wants to go off on multiple personalities and schizophrenia, it’s medically not the same as manic depression/bipolar. You’ll find that fact pointed out in a beginning psychology text book). Also, if recognition of mental illness isn’t as prevalent since the acceptance of mental sicknesses are kind of new, is there a severely high rate of suicide or other destructive behaviors? And with the lack of availability of jobs preventing ppl. from marrying at the time they would like to marry (and probably being a major factor in ppl. feeling sexually repressed and possibly upset often because of it), are depression rates high? If so, what is done4 it

Bipolar Disorder, earlier known as Manic Depressive Disorder, is a common psychological illness that can disrupt one’s life severely, leading to chaotic behavior and even suicide. Affecting nearly one per cent of the population, people suffering from this disease are often highly creative and gifted. They include geniuses like poet Sylvia Plath. While in some cases the disease worsens over time, in others the patient gets well spontaneously.

Millions of people have bipolar disorder. It used to be called manic depression. With bipolar disorder, life can be like an emotional roller coaster. One day your mood is low and you feel sad. Then your mood gets really high and you feel great. Then the sadness comes back. The good news is that there’s help for these extreme mood swings. With proper treatment, people with bipolar disorder can lead normal lives.

Should i avoid possible bipolar diagnosis?

I think i may have bipolar 2, the less severe one. Doctors seem hesitant to give people an official diagnosis. Feeling a little paranoid, wondering if having that on my record could cause me problems. I did notice that the disability plan at work has an exclusion for bipolar dementia. Wondering if that means they exclude bipolar in general. Not that i’m planning to go on disability, just intermittent fmla. Should i stick with my current diagnosis of GAD and Depression?
how do i go about getting meds for the mood swings without diagnosis though. right now i am only on lexapro and xanax. i would like to try something like seroquel. thanks everybody for your input.

uals with a family history of bipolar disorder and advise him or her to undergo necessary clinical tests to verify the condition existing, in order to control and treat it properly. This is very important for helping the person lead a happy, normal and healthy life.

Since bipolar disorder is chiefly linked to genetic causes, if an individual has other persons in the family diagnosed with the condition and exhibits certain common symptoms and signs associated with the disease, it is necessary to observe and report these findings, such as frequent, uncontrollable mood swings, loss of speech control, lack of fine motor skills and emotional upswings and downswings both that are not in the normal range. This means being happy one minute and then extraordinarily and uncontrollably depressed and then back to happy again; it can last a few minutes or a full month; thus, with bipolar disorder, mood swings are a constant and can affect daily routine activities adversely.

Different Types Of Depression

Depression is not a small societal problem. It affects a rather large segment of our population. The word depression is a broad topic, and actually there are a variety of different type of the condition known as depression. These different types of depression are defined by different types of symptoms that are present.

The most commonly type of depression treated today is known as major depression. Major depression is denoted by a lack of energy by the individual, unable to get a good night’s sleep, and just a general lethargic feeling or feeling blue for extended periods of time with no breaks in the mood and no apparent cause for the feelings.

The BP is more internal (not easily noticeable).
In fact, some think it’s being faked for disability sake.
Believe me, working has more rewards than disability.
It’s the stigma of the illness and the disability that seems to scare others away.
Sure there’s an understanding person out there, who looks past these issues.
But that is probably 1 in 1000. That’s just a fact of life.
It’s not brought up when first acquainted, but eventually in a relationship of trust and honesty it has to be revealed.
